Senate Democrat Calls For Quick Transfer Of Haitian Orphans
By Antonia Aguilar University Of New Mexico/Talk Radio News
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) stressed the need for the quick transfer of orphans to their adoptive parents in America, as well as the placement of orphans in permanent homes within the U.S.
“We want to work on a better child care policy [and] a better orphan policy than was present before this earthquake,” said Landrieu.
Better policies will focus on identifying “true orphans,” who Landrieu described as children who have no known living relatives to care for them. Better care for orphans will also help to produce a generation that may some day grow up to help their native country, Landrieu added.
The earthquake left thousands of children orphaned and caused delays in adoption processes that had already been initiated before the crisis, causing further calamity to an already disorganized adoption system.

I agree that children from the streets should not be rounded up and sent to the US without proper procedures. However, there are plenty of verified orphans from Haitian orphanages that could come over. These are the children that should be allowed to come over now.
