Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) urges President Barack Obama to convene a bipartisan group to support the strategy in Afghanistan. Wolf said, in a press conference Wednesday, that the group is fundamental to the defense of the American Public.
“We are not assured victory by staying but I believe the probability of a future terrorist attack dramatically increases if we leave now,” Rep. Wolf said.
The group would be responsible for bolstering the strategies of military commanders in the field and continually assessing progress and resources needed to succeed.
“This should not be a political decision,” Wolf said. “It should first and foremost be a decision about what is best for our nation.”
Rep. Wolf was the first to initiate the Iraq Study Group which was appointed in March, 2006. He says an Afghanistan oriented group is necessary to stay continuously engaged in solving the current conflict.
The Congressman said the group would be comprised of officials who clearly support a victory.
“We cannot walk away, but we cannot stay halfheartedly,” said Wolf.
