Lieberman Calls Iran A "Ticking Time Bomb"
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) called Iran a “ticking time bomb” today at a Bipartisan Policy Center event introducing an updated report regarding U.S. foreign policy in Iran.
“As of today…we are failing in our effort to prevent Iran from going nuclear,” Lieberman said.
Lieberman opened the event to former Senator Daniel Coats (R-Ind.), Senator Charles Robb (D-Va.) and General (Ret.) Charles Ward - the authors of the Bipartisan Policy Center report on Iran. The report, titled “Meeting the Challenge – Time is Running Out,” stresses the importance of the U.S immediately taking a new tone with Iran before the republic becomes a nuclear threat.
Although the report acknowledges the efforts of the Obama administration to engage Iran “diplomatically,” the report also suggests, “The Islamic Republic’s repeated spurning of U.S overtures suggests that the Iranian regime remains uninterested in diplomatic engagement.”
“[The report] is an important effort because it calls it like it is,” Robb said. “It puts the burden squarely on the President.”
