Obama Announces Cyber Czar Position

By Justin Duckham-Talk Radio News Service

President Barack Obama announced today that the White House will be creating an office dedicated to the security of the U.S. digital infrastructure, in addition to the appointment of a new Cyber Security Coordinator, or “Cyber Czar”.

The President stated that the protection of the infrastructure will be treated as an integral part of national security and that the cyber czar will be included on both the national security and national economic counsel staffs.

“This official will have my full support and regular access to me as we confront these challenges,” Obama said.

The new office will be responsible for orchestrating the government’s digital security policies and coordinating a response in the event of a cyber attack.

The announcement comes on the heels of a newly released report detailing the technological vulnerabilities facing the U.S.

The position will reportedly not be subject to Senate confirmation. The President did not say when he will appoint somebody to the position.
