Hoyer Full Of Optimism

by Candyce Torre, University of New Mexico-Talk Radio News Service. This morning, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) met with the press, and, with optimism discussed a range of issues on Capitol Hill.

Hoyer is hopeful the budget will pass within the next 30 hours and stated that President Obama has been very decisive, thoughtful and has made great efforts to reach out for bipartisanship.

On the Energy Bill, Hoyer suggested that the House does not want to
wait for the Senate to act.

Hoyer also talked about the so-called Hate Crimes legislation, which is defined
as crimes committed against groups, concluding that the legislation being will not deal with (FREE?) speech but rather proscribes actions committed against groups.

Hoyer briefly addressed the issue of the swine flu and commented
that there has already been previous assets and procedures in place
with the previous Bush Administration when dealing with the avian flu.
He stated the previous procedures will provide opportunities to
respond to the current situation.
