Government Watchdog: Fairness is Returning to American Tax Code
By Jonathan Bronstein, Talk Radio News
April 15, the most dreaded day on the calendar of most Americans. But this year had a slightly different tinge. More than 1,500 Americans took to the streets to demonstrate feelings of disenfranchisement from the government and being taxed too greatly.
However, this April 15 had a slightly different tinge, as some Americans have taken to the streets in order to demonstrate their frustrations of being disenfranchised from the government and being taxed too greatly.
“Americans look forward to about as much as they do to going to the dentist,” said Nicole Tichon of United States Public Research Interest Group, jokingly.
But who is behind this “tea party” movement?
“What you have is corporate front groups, special interest and Republicans from Congress exploiting the natural anger associated with tax day,” said Tom McMahon the Acting Executive Director of Americans United for Change.
McMahon commented on the Fox News report, which stated that “38 Republican members of Congressmen” will take part in the protests.
But, McMahon is unclear on the motives of the protestors, and asked if they were protesting the policies of former President George Bush or the policies of Obama, which do not raise taxes for those earning under $250,000.
“The real agenda here is these corporate front groups are more interested in seeing the President fail in his effort to change the failed policies of the past,” said McMahon.
Tichon commended President Obama for trying to close these “outrageous tax loop-holes,” which allow large corporations to hide their money abroad in off-shore accounts in locations like the Cayman islands. This unfair but legal practice forces the average American to shoulder an unfair burden of taxes, and causes the government to lose $100 billion, according to Tichon.
Optimistically, Tichon commented on her hope that this was the last tax day when she said, “Under Obama’s Plan today should be the last tax day where high priced accounts and secret post office boxes are valued over hard work and responsibility.”
