A Step Toward Energy Sustainability
At a meeting today the Energy Discovery-Innovation Institute discussed a new proposal regarding new paradigms for U.S energy research. Among several speakers, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and James Duderstadt, President Emeritus of the University of Michigan, discussed America's future in sustainable development.
Duderstadt brought up the need for a renewal of America's economy and the need to foster energy security. To do that the new proposal states that a broad range of carbon pricing and regulatory responses have to be adopted, as well as a deployment of bold new research paradigms. A national network of regionally based energy discovery-innovation institutes should be established by the government, to gather the country's best scientists, engineers and facilities.
The biggest challenges that are facing America in sustainable energy development are described as massive sustainability and security challenges, according to the new proposal. They have a big impact on America's energy production and delivery systems. Duderstadt stated that transformational innovation and commercialization will be necessary to handle these challenges.
