Senate Rejects Gregg Amendment
The Senate rejected a GOP backed amendment Monday aimed at blocking cuts made to the Medicare system from being used for unrelated programs by a 56 to 43 vote.
The fate of the amendment, which was proposed by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), follows the rejection an amendment proposed by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to prevent over $400 billion in Medicare cuts last week.
The Senate is expected to have a vote late Monday on an amendment proposed by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) barring federal funding for abortion.
