Obama Needs To Listen To Military Commanders In Afghanistan, Says Middle East Analyst
By Ravi Bhatia, Talk Radio News Service
James Phillips, Middle East Analyst with conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, said Tuesday that President Barack Obama should listen to his military commanders on the ground in Afghanistan when deciding whether or not to send more troops to the country.
“[Obama’s] political advisers [seem] to be kind of fighting a backstage war against the advice of his military commanders,” Phillops told Talk Radio News Service. “That’s no way to fight a war.”
Phillips’ statements came after CBS reported that Obama has “tentatively decided” to send four combat brigades and thousands more support troops to the region, which would bring an additional 40,000 troops to the region, a number that General Stanley McChrystal had initially requested. White House National Security Advisor James Jones claims that the CBS report is false.
According to Phillips, Obama’s indecisiveness in the region makes U.S allies “nervous.”
“President Obama is acting as if he’s still a law professor and is gathering information,” he said. “But he needs to remember that we’re already in the middle of this war.”
