GOP Scolds Democrats For Lack Of Transparency In Health Care Debate

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and a number of other GOP colleagues held a press conference Thursday afternoon scolding Democrats for allegedly shutting down the Ways and Means Committee this morning to discontinue further debate about health care reform.
"The question to me is: what is the majority hiding?" said Cantor. "Did they not want to vote on an amendment which would require that members of Congress fall under any kind of public option that we impose on the American people? If so, shame on them."
"The American people deserve transparency... to have an open and honest Congress, not one that shuts down debate and exploits the rules so they can create a new entitlement program," Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) added.
The Congressmen charged that their amendments were pushed aside, stating that they were disappointed that Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) of the Ways and Means Committee refused to stand up to House Majority Leader to make minority party voices heard.
