Sen. Snowe Signals Support For Baucus Bill

Travis Martinez, University of New Mexico/Talk Radio News Service

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) stated Tuesday that she will vote to pass the America's Healthy Future Act through the Senate Finance Committee.

“Is this bill all that I would want? Far from it. But when history calls, history calls and I happen to think that the consequences of inaction dictate the urgency of Congress to demonstrate its capacity to solve the monumental issues of our time.”

Snowe warned that although she would be supporting the bill today, that does not mean she will support the legislation that reaches the Senate floor.

“My vote today is my vote today, it doesn’t forecast what my vote would be tomorrow,” said Snowe.

Snowe has often been viewed by Democrats as a Republican ally, and possible swing vote, on health care reform legislation.
