The Political Waves of Katrina

"The Big Tent" was buzzing Monday with a short session on racism and politics. The discussion was lead by James Rucker of ColorOfChange.org, a website devoted to issues concerning African-Americans. Although the event was titled "Left Behind: What Katrina and a Stolen Election Taught Us About Race and American Politics," the panel of four activists touched on a variety of issues. Panel members included Scott-Myers Lipton of the Gulf Coast Civic Works Project, Jonah H. Goldman of the National Campaign for Fair Elections, and Stephen Bradberry of the Louisiana Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. Donna Brazile, Chair of the National Committee's Voting Rights, never arrived at the event but was scheduled to speak.
