Demonstrators on Capitol Hill protest profits of oil companies and call for investment in renewable energy on a day where gas prices have reached a national average of $3.29 per gallon.
Over the past 25 years, the "big bad oil companies" have paid up $2.2 trillion dollars in tax (adjusted for inflation). That is more than three times the profit that they made in the same period. Source: http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/1168.html I am supposing that these protesters were trying to get attention from their senators. Senators do little more than complain and blame Bush and the Republican party.
