Medicare not beneficial to beneficiaries
Plaintiffs Bryan Hall, Lewis Randall and Norman Rogers are bringing a new lawsuit against the government challenging the Medicare and the Social Security system, saying they would rather proceed legal action than seek congressional action, since something needs to be done now. “[Medicare] is great as long as you’re not sick, but if you’re sick, it can be a problem,” Rogers said during the announcement of the case at the National Press Club.
The case states that the plaintiffs want to obtain their Social Security benefits from the government but stop participating in the Medicare part A system. They’re not seeking any reimbursement for being a part of the system, they simply want to drop out.
According to Rogers, the Medicare system will in the future experience financially difficulties due to the large number of baby boomers entering the system. He believes there will be further cut backs on standard services and restraints on the availability of care saying he rather make arrangements on his own. “I know it cost the government 5000 dollars a year to give it to me, but they seemed to be very insistent on doing that,” Rogers said.
