U.S and Russia Have Set The Groundwork For Better Understanding In Nuclear Politics, Says Expert

Associate Director of Russia and Eurasia at the Center for American Progress, Samuel Charap, praised the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) between U.S. and Russia.

“We’ve gone a long way in being able to discuss some issues that are crucial for the security of both the United States, Russia, and the rest of the world. They have sort of set the groundwork both for a broadening of the relationship between the U.S and Russia, and a deepening of the relationship on arms control and nuclear security issues,” said Charap during a conference call Tuesday. Hostile regimes cause current nuclear issues

Jack Spencer, Research fellow in the Thomas Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation, says that currently our nonproliferation regime possesses adequate resources to deal with current international nuclear issues. However, he says that the problem lies in hostile regimes that are desperate to gain nuclear technology (:36).
