Obama Comments On Kagan Confirmation 

President Barack Obama applauded the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday for their role in Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s confirmation, and commented on the historical nature of Kagan’s ascension to the bench.

“For nearly two centuries there wasn’t a single woman on our nation’s highest court,” Obama said during a brief statement delivered from Chicago’s Renaissance Hotel. “When Elena takes her seat on that bench, for the first time in our history, there will be three women.” (2:33)

Leahy: If Moses Were Nominated, Republicans Would Object, Ask For Birth Certificate

Following President Barack Obama's nomination of Solictor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court Monday, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) predicted that there will be some Republican opposition. Leahy quipped that if President Obama had nominated Moses for the Supreme Court, there would still be those who would object and raise questions over his birth certificate.

Leahy added that he is confident that Kagan will be confirmed after the Senate looks at her qualifications. (0:37)
