Reid-Lott Comparison Defies History, Reality, Says White House Press Secretary
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbss rejected comparisons being drawn between comments made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and former Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.)
“I understand what people have to say ... to get themselves on T.V.,” Gibbs remarked. “I suggest they spend about twenty seconds reading a little history.” (0:22)

The comments made by Reid, although distasteful, we meant as a complement not an insult. The comparison between Lott and Reid, and the labeling of double standard is uncalled for. For the las year, the Republican Party has done nothing but rip apart the "fabric" of the American political and legislative process. Now they are using a word that has been used continuously against a man who has done more for minorities than almost anyone in American politics in twenty years for nothing more than political game. The Republicans in Congress are sensitizing Americans over and over to a racist mentality while saying they are trying to eliminate racism through political correctness. Political correctness is just what it says, political. The more comments that are branded racist, the more it becomes racist. The only person that should be offended is the person that the comment was aimed toward. If you are fighting you equality and justice, do it up front, not while trying to gain a political foothold. All that is accomplished here is division of America further. The Republicans have had no interest in bringing together Americans. They are just pushing us further and further apart with lies and deceit. After seeing their behavior over the last year, I have lost faith in my Republican leaders from Texas and am disgusted in the way they, especially Cornyn, have responded to and disrespected those of us who elected them to office. Thus far, using their own type of comparison, a majority of white Americans are offended. If the minorities were offended, they would be much more outspoken. Only a few have come out of the woodwork to call for racism. Especially since the NAACP has been called racist by Cornyn because they have the words "Colored People" in their name. Stupid argument. I voted Republican for the most part for the last twenty years, but my loyalty is definitely waining. The party is doing nothing to improve the America I grew up in. They are only making it a place that is less free and less safe.
