We NEED immigration reform now! I agree that there is a consensus about amnesty, but I am worried about the harsher enforcement measures that are going to have to be part of the compromise. Statistics show that harsher enforcement practices do NOT deter undocumented migration, and only cause more human suffering and family separation.
If Judy Chu is correct, then by supporting mass amnesty, this block of anti-American worker Congressmen are directly going against the will of the American people. A Rasmussen Reports poll released just a few days ago shows that 70% of voters believe border control is more important that legalizing illegals. With unemployment at a 26-year high, the LAST thing are elected officals should be doing is scheming ways to legalize million of illegal foreign workers who cut the line.
NO AMNESTY -- ENFORCE THE LAWS!!
Americans overwhelmingly reject "pathway to citizenhip" a/k/a amnesty as the above comment notes. Americans also want enforcement against illegal aliens, as was promised in the supposed "one-time only" 1986 IRCA mass amnesty. And enforcement works when the laws are consistently enforced! Illegals must leave and fight for their OWN countries rather than shamefully whining for another amnesty.
We must also reduce legal immigration to pre-1965 levels to support unemployed American workers. Most Americans do not know that our government permits 125,000 legal foreign workers PER MONTH to enter our country (in addition to 12-20 million illegal aliens)! In this era of mass unemployment, this is simply unacceptable.
There is a consensus amoung U.S.citizen voters also.If AMNESTY is given to illegal aliens there will be a very large block of congress voted out of office.I agree with Steve and Dave.
