Health Care Reform Bill Is "Alarming" Says House GOP'er

Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-Wash.) expresses concerns about consequences of the current version of the healthcare reform plan circulating through Congress. “We are very concerned about the way it jeopardizes the doctor-patient relationship, we’re concerned about the additional debt, the trillions in spending that will add to the children and grandchildren that come after us, but worst of all, it’s going to further hurt our small business owners at a time when our economy is in trouble,” she says, speaking with GOP Congresswomen and small business owners. I went through key parts of the pending bill this morning. Everything Rep. McMorris-Rodgers says is true. One of the most alarming parts of the bill is the requirement that employers provide coverage. This requirement phases in at extremely low payroll levels. Further, it imposes a tax of 8% of payroll for those electing not to cover employees. I cannot fathom starting a business that would eventually require more than $250,000 payroll (the level at which a graduated percentage kicks in). More than $400,000 in payroll and you're in for the whole 8%. A little math shows that could be as few as 5-10 employees.

This bill stinks of socialism, will lead to rationed care, and cannot possibly be paid for without even more obscene tax levels. I dearly hope it is killed ASAP.
