Tomorrow United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will tour some of the most devastated areas of Myanmar before headed to Bangkok for a meeting with the Association of South East Asian Nations about their relief efforts. Dan Patterson updates live from the United Nations. (1:14)

Why do we bother with these people. Obviously their government doesn't care about them. Whatever food and/or medicines we supply will never filter down beyod government officials. And... they don't want our ships there simply because we are "the great satan" that will make their socialist paradise look bad.
The United Nations has been greatly concerned with shipments of supplies being diverted and/or rebranded by the Junta. However, the UN under the auspices of ASEAN, has been providing close oversight on the distribution of aid.
We can only answer your point regarding ships with speculation. However, it's likely that the ruling Junta,
a.) does not want to be embarrassed by their inability to handle post-disaster needs
and,
b.) is afraid that their atrocities will be further exposed to the international community
