Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.) introduced legislation on Tuesday to grant back pay to 4,000 Federal Aviation Administration workers who were furloughed for nearly two weeks when Congress failed to extend funding for the department.
LoBiondo’s measure would use money from within the Aviation Trust Fund to compensate the employees, who were asked to work for free for 13 days.
“My focus,” said LoBiondo, “is to get them back pay and to ensure this avoidable situation never happens again.”
