President Barack Obama will visit Patterson, New Jersey Sunday to assess the damage from Hurricane Irene.

The trip comes as administration officials tour hard-hit communities across the East Coast. On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited North Carolina and Virginia, while FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited Vermont.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie sent the Obama administration a letter earlier this week requesting an expedited state-wide disaster declaration.
