The Department of Justice announced formal charges Friday against a U.S. soldier believed to have been plotting an attack against fellow troops stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

21-year-old Naser Jason Abdo is being charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device in connection with the alleged plot, which was first reported by multiple news outlets earlier this week.

According to information released by DOJ, “The complaint further alleges that Abdo intended to use the materials to assemble two destructive devices with the intention of detonating them inside an unspecified restaurant frequented by soldiers from Fort Hood.”

Abdo, who went AWOL earlier this year from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, is currently being held in federal custody. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.
