The Senate unanimously confirmed Wednesday that Commerce Secretary Gary Locke be President Obama’s next United States ambassador to China.

Locke was warmly welcomed by the Senate during his confirmation hearings in May.

The departing Commerce Secretary will replace Jon Huntsman who made his departure to make a run to become the GOP’s nomination for president in 2012. Locke becomes the first Chinese-American to assume the post.
