House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md) told reporters Tuesday that he would vote in support of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) latest debt reduction plan, though it is far from perfect.
Although he would have favored another plan, Hoyer feels that the Reid plan, at this point, is the best option going forward.
“Reid’s plan is the only one that’s reasonable: it includes spending cuts that have already been agreed to by both parties; it protects the crucial programs on which millions of Americans rely, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security; and it allows America to continue paying its bills through 2013, bringing added certainty to our economy,” said Hoyer.
Hoyer hopes that the Reid plan can pass both the House and the Senate in the next 72 hours. He said that the Reid plan will have overwhelming support from Democrats in both chambers.
