The Federal Election Committee (FEC) voted Thursday to require former Sen. John Edwards repay the U.S. Treasury $2.3 million.

The FEC approved an audit that revealed Edwards’ 2008 presidential campaign spent more money than it was allowed to.

Edwards is reported to have $2.6 million remaining in his campaign account.
