Pentagon Announces New Communication Team

The Pentagon announced Tuesday that the CIA’s Director of Public Affairs, George Little, and Admiral Michael Mullen’s spokesperson Captain John Kirby will be heading the Defense Department’s communication team.

Little will be serving as Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Kirby will be the Spokesman and Director of Media Operations as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.

The two-person model was described as “a different template” by Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Dennis Wilson. The two will orchestrate briefings and gaggles on a rotating basis and will both be considered the official voice of the Department.

Little assumes his new role on Tuesday, but Kirby will remain Mullen’s spokesperson for the remainder of the the Admiral’s tenure as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
