Poll: More Disapprove Of GOP's Handling Of Debt Limit Fight

A new CBS News poll conducted over the weekend shows that 71% of those who were surveyed said they disapprove of how GOP leaders in Congress have handled the battle over raising the nation’s debt limit.

48% said they disagree with how President Obama has managed the fight, while 58% said the same for Congressional Democrats.

Lawmakers and White House officials have yet to reach agreement on a plan to reduce the country’s nearly $14.3 trillion debt, something both parties say should be coupled with an increase in the federal borrowing limit. The Treasury Department has said repeatedly that if the limit is not raised by August 2, the nation could default on some of its obligations. Credit rating agencies have also warned the federal government that the consequences of default would be severe for the U.S.’ rating.
