Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) announced Thursday intent to investigate mortgage companies for abuse against active-duty service members and their families.

This event comes after six months of preparation and climaxed when Cummings released an investigative report, regarding illegal forclosures of active service members’ homes. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman, Representative Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) endorsed Cummings’ actions.

Shortly after the announcement, the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said, “I am encouraged that the Chairman agreed to join me in this bipartisan effort to hold the mortgage servicing companies accountable for widespread abuse against our men and women in uniform.”
