Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced today that the Senate will be in session next week to work on a deal to raise the nation’s debt limit and reduce its deficit.
President Obama yesterday complained about Congress being off next week, in honor of the July 4 holiday. The House is scheduled to be in session next week, but with the Senate scheduled to be away, Obama expressed concern that no progress would be made next week.
The White House has previously stated that the debt limit must be increased by August 2.
“The Senate will be in session next week. Our work is too important, the obstacles too steep and the time too short to waste even a moment,” Reid tweeted this morning.
