Senate Dems Renew Push For Clean Energy Legislation

Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Thomas Carper (D-Del.) and Michael Bennet (D-Col.), alongside Michael Breen; Vice-President of the Truman National Security Project, reintroduced the Oil Independence for a Stronger America Act (OISAA) today, pressuring lawmakers to push it through Congress.

The bill focuses on attaining national security objectives through self-sufficiency and market forces, according to the group, who spoke during a press conference. It increases and diversifies potential tax credits for clean energy alternatives and also establishes an infrastructure to support developments in clean energy through tax credits and economic incentives.

OISAA, originally drafted July 15, 2010, has enjoyed bipartisan support in the Senate, but its fate in the House is more uncertain.
