House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told reporters Monday that Democratic leaders should strip Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) of his committee assignments if he refuses to resign.

“I think he should resign,” Cantor said during a briefing. “I think his leaders should do everything they can to bring him to that point if he’s not already.”

Weiner currently serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and is a member of the Health Subcommittee and the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

Top Democratic officials, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fl.) have called for Weiner’s resignation.

Weiner, a seven-term Congressman, inadvertently Tweeted a picture of his crotch two weeks ago. He initially lied about the incident, saying his account was hacked, but ultimately confessed sending racy pictures to at least six women before and after his marriage. He checked himself into an unspecified form of treatment over the weekend.
