House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) suggested Monday that Republicans may vote this week to officially grant President Obama approval to continue U.S. involvement in Libya.
The now NATO-led campaign to protect Libyan rebels from their renegade ruler, Moammar Gaddafi, hit the 60-day mark on Friday, putting the White House in technical violation of the War Powers Act, which requires Congress to authorize the use of military force within a two-month window.
When asked whether the House would take up such a measure, Cantor promised a “robust” amendment process to a 2012 defense budget being looked at on the floor this week. Late last week, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) announced that he would introduce a resolution authorizing the U.S.’s mission as early as Monday.
