Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) announced Friday that they would both introduce items disapproving of President Obama’s request for Israel to return to its pre-1967 borders.
In a statement, Hatch said he would introduce a Congressional Resolution next week denouncing Obama’s call.
“Israel is the United States’ strongest friend and ally,” he said. “By calling for a return to the pre-1967 borders, President Obama has directly undermined her.”
Culberson said that his measure will come in the form of an amendment to be attached to other legislation that the House will consider next week. The Texas Republican’s measure would “block the White House from negotiating a peace treaty with the Palestinanians based in whole or in part on imposing Israel’s pre-1967 borders.”
“Obama has turned his back on our greatest ally in the Middle East,” Culberson added.
