The Tea Party Express is claiming that Jack Davis, a Tea Party candidate in New York’s 26th district’s special election, is using the tea party mantle to mislead voters.

Though Davis is listed under “Tea Party” on the ballot, his political past reveals him as a liberal Democrat with a history of supporting higher taxes, ObamaCare, cap & trade legislation, contributing many thousands of dollars to far-left Democrat candidates, as well as endorsing Barack Obama for President,” a statement from the organization reads.

The Tea Party Express is the latest group to challenge Davis’ conservative credentials. The National Republican Congressional Committee has released an ad that depicts a man from the shoulders down wearing one sticker that says “Jack Davis” and another bearing Obama’s campaign logo. It goes on to charge that Davis, through his political support, can be held responsible for House Democrats’ legislative record.

“Thank to Jack Davis’ helping hand, the Democrats passed a failed stimulus plan, pushed us further into debt with China and promised us jobs we never saw,” the ad states.

Davis has recently been in the news after a video emerged that appears to show him shoving a camera held by a member of his Republican opponent’s staff.

Davis has run unsuccessfully for Congress three times. Described as a former Republican, he made his bids as a Democrat. He is now registered as a Republican but failed to secure the party’s nomination.

The election is May 24th and is between Republican Jane Corwin and Democrat Kathy Hochul.
