House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) both plan to give up their Congressional pay if the government shuts down Friday, according to CBS.
Reid makes $193,400 a year and Boehner receives $223,500.
The two leaders will be joined by other lawmakers. Sen. Joe Machin (D-W.V.) has urged his Senate colleagues to return their paychecks to the Treasury Department, a request that has reportedly attracted more than 20 other Senators. Others, such as Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) will be donating their salary to veteran charities.
