House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters on Tuesday that should House Republicans schedule a vote this week on another short-term funding measure, he will vote against it.

“It is extraordinarily inefficient, ineffective and costly way of doing business…funding the largest enterprise in the world on a weekly basis.”

Hoyer said that GOP lawmakers are cheering for the goverment to shutdown if their demands for steep spending cuts are not met. A shutdown, he said, would be “demoralizing” to the American public.

Hoyer admitted that a few moderate Democrats may approve of another CR due to the fact that it would fund the Pentagon through the rest of the current fiscal year. However, he said that he would urge his colleagues to uniformly vote against it.
