A national Tea Party group released a statement on Thursday criticizing House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for failing to meet his party’s pledge to cut $100 billion worth of spending this year.
“The 2011 budget negotiated by Speaker Boehner is embarrassing in how short of expectations it falls,” said Amy Kremer, Chairman of The Tea Party Express.
After weeks of negotiating with Democrats and White House officials, Boehner will bring the budget bill to the floor for a vote today. Though it is expected to pass, conservatives have railed against it for cutting less than $15 billion from this year’s discretionary budget.
Boehner and other leaders, meanwhile, have argued that it reduces spending by $78 billion compared to the budget proposed last year by President Obama.
The Tea Party Express was founded in 2009 by the Political Action Committee led by Republicans Howard Kaloogian and Sal Russo.
