A majority of Americans now support gay marriage, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Five years ago, only 36 percent of Americans agreed that same-sex couples should be allowed to legally wed. Today, 53 percent say they agree in legalizing gay marriage.
Data from the poll show that while support among college-educated whites and political independents has substantially increased, Republicans, conservatives and white evangelical Christians remain the notion’s biggest opposition.
