N.Y. Republican leaders have chosen a candidate to replace Rep. Chris Lee (R) as representative of New York’s 26th district.
At a meeting in Geneseo on Monday, GOP leaders nominated Assemblywoman Jane Corwin to fill the vacant House seat. Corwin has served as the Assemblywoman for New York’s 142 District since November of 2008.
New York’s 26th district has been without a representative since Rep. Lee resigned in early February, following reports by Gawker.com that the married lawmaker had engaged in inappropriate romantic conversations and emails online.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has 30 days following a seat vacancy to call a special election, which means an election will take place in the primarily red district sometime within the next two weeks. Democrats have not yet nominated a candidate.
