Politico reports this morning that Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine will speak with President Obama at some point about possibly running for Senate next year.

Last week, Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) announced that he would not seek a second term, opening the door for Kaine or someone else to step in and run against former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.). Kaine, who served as Governor of the Commonwealth prior to taking over full-time at the DNC, instantly became most pundits’ top pick to pursue his party’s nomination.

The report mentioned that a White House official had confirmed that Kaine and Obama would speak either in person or by phone “in the next day or two.”

Former Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.), who was voted out of office this past November, is also a candidate to replace Webb.
