With a sweeping 98-0 vote on Tuesday, the Senate declares it is a felony to illegally record and distribute images from airport body scanners.
Concerns about the controversial body scanners, which are used in airports and federal office buildings, surfaced in November of 2010. Complaints were originally issued when images stored at a Florida Federal Courthouse were published by the technology blog Gizmodo.
The vote was attached to the Federal Aviation Administration re-authorization bill that is expected to pass through the Senate later this week.
