Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement Friday in response to the new unemployment data:
“Today’s jobs numbers are proof that our work to bring the economy back from the brink is beginning to pay off. The unemployment rate fell by nearly half a percent, more than 100,000 people have gone back to work and we added double the number of manufacturing jobs expected. But we know more work remains to be done. We know many families in Nevada and across America are still hurting. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we keep putting Americans back to work, protecting our middle class and helping small businesses grow and expand.
“With Americans still struggling, the Republicans’ plan to take tax cuts away from small businesses couldn’t come at a worse time. We need to give small businesses help, not take it away. But rather than provide small businesses with incentives to grow and hire new workers, Republicans want to raise their taxes and give power back to the insurance companies. We cannot afford that at a time when our economy continues to recover.”
