Former Republican Senator George Allen (Va.) is expected to announce on Monday that he will attempt to reclaim his old seat in 2012.
It is being reported that Allen, who lost his seat in 2006 to Democrat Jim Webb, is set to file paperwork with the FEC that will allow him to commence fundraising and begin hiring staff.
Webb, meanwhile, has yet to say whether he’ll seek a second term. A wave of voter discontent with former President George W Bush, coupled with a few embarrassing miscues on the part of Allen - including an incident in which he referred to an Indian-American man as “Macaca” during a campaign event — helped propel Webb into office.
