FCC Approves Comcast-NBC Merger

By a 4-1 vote on Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission voted to allow two of the nation’s largest media entities to merge.

Only Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps voted to oppose the merging of Comcast and NBC Universal, a deal that had been in the works for over a year.

The nearly $14 billion deal gives Comcast a 51% stake in NBC. The transaction still requires the blessing of the U.S. Department of Justice, though reports suggest that DOJ will soon sign off on the purchase.
