Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) released the following statement following President Obama’s announcement on the deal he and Republican leadership reached on extending tax cuts and unemployment benefits:

“I applaud President Obama and the Congressional leadership for agreeing on a compromise on taxes and moving our economy forward. This tentative agreement is an example of Washington working across party lines to confront the challenges facing our nation. I urge Congress to move quickly to pass this compromise that is critical to our economic security. Then, before we go home for the holidays, Congress must pass the Defense Authorization bill which is essential to our troops and national security and would also repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy that is unjust and harmful to our military effectiveness.”
