Departing New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson had the opportunity to pardon one of the country’s most iconic Wild West outlaw’s, Billy the Kid, but decided the evidence supporting the pardon was not substantial.
Richardson made the announcement today in an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” his last day as governor.
“It was a very close call,” Richardson said on the show. “The romanticism appealed to me to issue a pardon, but the facts and the evidence did not support it.”
