Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) seems to have made fighting the DREAM Act his top legislative priority during the lame duck session.
The Alabama Republican wrote to his Senate colleagues on Thursday, pleading with them to block Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) efforts to bring at least one version of the bill to the floor this week for a test vote. Sessions argued that the DREAM Act should be examined in committee before it is voted on.
“Not one of these bills has been reviewed by the Judiciary Committee, nor have Senators been provided with a CBO score,” he said. “This shell game makes it nearly impossible for members of this body, and their constituents, to properly review and consider the legislation prior to a vote. It is an abuse of the process and on that basis alone members ought to oppose cloture.”
