Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) accepted her nomination Tuesday to become the next Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair.
“Well I am very humbled to have the support of my leader, the leadership and my entire caucus on taking on this very important task for Democrats across the country,” said Murray. “I know that this is not an easy task, but I am not doing this becuase it is easy, I’m doing it because it is a very tough time for many families and businesses and communities across this country and they are looking to us here to fight hard for them, to help get them back on their feet.”
This term as chair will be Murray’s second after she headed the committee during the 2002 election. This time around the Washington Senator will be responsible for defending the 23 Democratic Senate seats up for grabs in the 2012 election.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV.) described Murray as helpful, efficient and experienced.
“It was with this background that I introduced Patty today to the caucus as the new chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee,” said Reid.
