New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was selected as the Vice Chairman of the Republican Governors Association, the RGA announced Wednesday morning.
“Republican governors are transforming their states with an eye on the next generation and positioning them for long-term prosperity,” Christie said in a statement.” This new role is a great opportunity to ensure that the good ideas already reforming the way state government works take hold across the country.”
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was also selected to serve on the RGA’s executive committee.
“No governors better exemplify the type of leadership our country needs right now than Governors Chris Christie and Scott Walker,” Gov. Bob McDonnell, the chair of the RGA, said in a statement. “Both have closed multi-billion dollar budget deficits, tackled unsustainable long-term liabilities in their states and are aggressively pursuing education reform.”
Christie is taking the spot held previously by McDonnell. McDonnell was selected as President after Texas Governor Rick Perry stepped down to pursue a White House run.
